BOCA RATON, Fla.- After winning its first season opener in program history on Saturday night, Lynn University’s lacrosse team earned double the recognition for this week’s Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week. Junior attack Anthony Rainone earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades while sophomore Shaun McDonald was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week after the Fighting Knights 17-5 rout of Palm Beach Atlantic.
Rainone scored six goals in the victory and added a pair of assists for a total of eight points. The Lynnbrook, N.Y., native is the first Fighting Knight to score six goals in a game and is a key reason the Blue & White set a program record for goals in a game.
McDonald was responsible for defending the Sailfish’s leading scorer and best player. He limited him to just one goal on two shots. Additionally, the Cicero, N.Y., native recorded a groundball and forced a turnover in the Blue & White’s win. McDonald and the Fighting Knights defense held PBA to just five goals on 22 shots.
This marks the first time in history that the Fighting Knights have earned weekly honors from the conference office.
Lynn returns to action on Sunday, March 1, when they play No. 3 LIU Post in Palm Coast, Fla. Fans can follow live stats at LynnFightingKnights.com. Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
