In yet another tight game, Maclay held on in the final minute to take a 9-8 win over Winter Park on a cold and damp night in Tallahassee. Behind 2 quick goals by Price and Clark, Winter Park took a 2-0 lead less than 3 minutes into the game. Maclay would eventually begin to possess the ball, scoring their first goal with 8:30 remaining in the first quarter behind an assist from Tucker Schwarz (Merrimack) to sophomore Luke Langford. Langford scored again less than a minute later on an unassisted goal off the endline, finishing in a tight spot with a slide bearing down, tying the game at 2-2. After a long possession, Maclay broke through against a Winter Park zone defense, with Stephen Chase scoring off a skip pass from Luke Langford with 3:42 to go in the first; Chase responded just seconds later, increasing the lead to 4-2. But, Winter Park began to fight back behind great play from Boudet at the faceoff X, and attackmen Clark and Price. Winter Park scored the next two goals, tying the game 4-4 with 8:50 to go. Back and forth play resulted in a 6-5 lead at half for Winter Park. Similar to other times during the year, Maclay began the third quarter with a faster pace. Javier Masferrer scored his second just 30 seconds into the second half, with Tripp Transou finding Tucker Schwarz less than 40 seconds later on a skip pass to a great low to high shot from the left wing. Winter Park answered behind Clark once again with 7:08 in the third, making it a 7-7 game. But, Maclay responded again 3 minutes later behind a great ride and finish by Stephen Chase. The Maclay defense would then hold Winter Park scoreless for much of the game, until 2:12 to go, with Winter Park scoring while 2-man up after two questionable tripping calls. Maclay would regain posession with less than 2 minutes remaining, taking advantage of a 1-minute man up. Goalie Connor Lamba contributed 9 saves total, a season low, but 6 saves in just the fourth quarter. The saves would prove to be the difference, as Maclay killed time, giving them their 8th win in the last 9 games, and their first over Winter Park. Maclay improves to 8-3 on the season and will play Friday versus Gulf Breeze at home. Winter Park continues their Tallahassee road trip with a game against Leon on Thursday night. The loss drops Winter Park to 7-7 on the season, despite improved play as of late.
