Maclay Tops Chiles 13-4

Behind the effort of a trio of sophomores, Maclay powered past Lawton Chiles, 13-4, setting up their 7th win in the last 8 games for the Marauders on Tuesday night. Maclay was led in scoring by Luke Langford, contributing four goals, while sophomore Stephen Chase contributed 3 goals and 1 assist. Long-stick midfielder/defensemen Teddy Transou continued his recent outstanding play with 9 groundballs. During the first quarter, Maclay took a quick 2-0 lead behind goals from Javier Masferrer and Tripp Transou. A cold evening slowed down the pace of play, with both teams possessing the ball for long stretches. Goalie Ryan Kearney kept Chiles in the game with several early key saves, including a diving save returning from the end line, ending the half with 11 saves and the game with 15 saves. After a close score at half, 4-1, Maclay opened up the scoring in the third quarter with 5 unanswered goals, taking a 9-3 lead into the final quarter. Luke Langford contributed two goals in the period, while Stephen Chase and Tripp Transou (Duke; 2 goals, 2 assists, 8 ground balls) also finished on several dodging opportunities, keeping the game out of reach. The Marauders defense stayed strong throughout much of the game, limiting Chiles to under 20 shots total. Tripp Transou and Jeff Auger each went over 75% at the faceoff X. Goalie Connor Lamba recorded 7 saves, while backup Nicholas Waddell made 3 saves during the fourth quarter. Others scoring for Maclay were: Javier Masferrer, 1 goal, 1 assist Tucker Schwarz, 1 goals, 1 assist Carter Torgerson, 1 goal Jeff Auger, 1 goal The win clinches the #1 seed in district 1 for Maclay, while Chiles is sitting in position for the #2 seed. Maclay continues on Wednesday night, at home, against Winter Park, followed by another home game on Friday versus Gulf Breeze.
