Above – Mark (middle) in 2006 when he was with the Iroquois World Cup National Team Mark Burnam recently joined the IMG Academy lacrosse coaching staff. He brings more than 30 years of experience at the professional, collegiate and high school levels as a coach and player. As a coach, Mark has developed hundreds of players, many who have gone on to national and international prominence. Mark has coached extensively at the International level serving as the assistant coach for the Iroquois World Cup National team at multiple World Championships, and served most recently as the head coach at Charlotte Christian and as Director of Road Warriors and CSL/Carolina Select Lacrosse. Burnam has guided several teams to their respective state playoffs and championships. As a player, Burnam led Henninger High School to the 1980 New York State Championship and was named the championship MVP. Burnam moved on to Syracuse University to play collegiately, and was a member of the 1983 NCAA Division-I championship squad, the first of Syracuse’s 10 national titles over the past 32 years. Burnam continued playing professionally for 11 years in the National Lacrosse League, winning the World Championship as a member of the Buffalo Bandits. Burnam also spent time with the Rochester Nighthawks and Syracuse Smash of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League and played in the Canadian Indoor Lacrosse League for the Tuscarora Thunderhawks and Akwasane Thunder. Burnam’s expertise in box and field lacrosse will complement the DoubleCrosse System at IMG Academy, the only program in the United State to integrate intensive training both in box and field lacrosse skills, strategies and tactics.
