(Men’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech (8-1) is set for a matchup with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (5-0) at 7 p.m. on Monday night at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium. The No. 12 Panthers are riding a program record seven-game winning streak going into the game against the undefeated Engineers. Florida Tech flexed its muscles in its 17-6 victory over Division III UMass Boston on Friday night. The Panthers’ defense stifled the Beacons’ attack and held them to a season-low for goals in a game. Senior Jordan Carlock led a defense that caused 15 turnovers in the game. Individually, Carlock set a school record with his eight caused turnovers against UMass Boston, breaking the previous mark of six caused turnovers he set last year against Mount Olive on March 23, 2014. Offensively, the Panthers received contributions from across the roster as 13 different players recorded a point in the win. Pacing the Crimson and Gray was sophomore Charlie Morrisette who finished with a career-high five points on three goals and two assists. Sophomore Tate Beason followed suit with his career-high four points on two goals and two assists. Senior Zach Wynne finished with one goal and two assists and four other Panthers scored two goals each in the win. Junior Nick Wynne tallied the first two goals of the game off blistering on-the-run shots and Morrisette scored with 1:36 remaining in the first quarter to give FIT a 3-0 lead. The Panthers registered five more goals in the second quarter to take an 8-2 lead into halftime. Junior Brian Bacarella scored on a man-up opportunity 30 seconds into the second half to push FIT’s lead to seven, but the Beacons responded with two quick goals of their own to make it a 9-4 game. The Panthers answered again with an 8-2 run, including sophomore Ben Abell’s first and second career goals, to close the door on UMass Boston. Sophomore face-off specialist Travis Wunder had another impressive performance in the face-off X, winning 12-of-18 draws, pushing the rock out to junior Nick Brown on the wing, who had a game-high seven ground balls. MIT comes into the game with an unblemished record after five games this season. The Engineers defeated Gordon College 12-8 in their last game on Thursday. Sophomore Harris Stolzenberg recorded a game-high five points on a goal and four assists in the win. This will be the Panthers’ second game against the Engineers.
