Over the weekend of January 10th-11th, in Weston, Florida, NexStar Lacrosse hosted a lacrosse prep showcase featuring a number of the top players in the region playing in front of a number of college representatives. The feature talk was given by Hofstra Head Coach Seth Tierney, who talked to the players about the recruiting process and how best to navigate it. A number of other Division 1 schools were also represented, including Marquette, Rutgers, Furman and Fairfield. Top D2 programs like Tampa, Adelphia and Florida Southern also participated, as did a number of D3 and Club programs.
Some of the players that stood out according to a consensus of those scouting included:
A number of goalies were singled out for praise – Joseph Weisberg of American Heritage-Plantation, Ryan Leahy and Michael Adler of St. Thomas Aquinas, and Kyle Romano of Boca Raton High
Other players that were mentioned included midfielder CJ Hassan of Gulliver, Nick Borodiak of STA and his teammates Kevin Crowley, Alec Cumella and Noah Cash, Sean and John Mahoney of Barron Collier.
Quin Spey of Pine Crest looked dominant at the face-off X
Others mentioned Dylan Garber and Anthony Courcelle from Cypress Bay.
Once again, the huge growth of the game in the state of Florida, and particularly the southern part of the state was shown. Just about all the kids playing came from this area!
Good luck to all the kids as they look to find their best fit at the college level and it’s great to see so many lacrosse programs looking to continue to mine the local area for lacrosse talent!
