On the Attack…Miller & Ihm lead Barron Collier past Gulf Coast

It is a game that has been talked about in Collier County since last summer. Perennial Big Boy on the SWFL Block, Barron Collier (10-2) taking on the up and coming Gulf Coast Sharks (11-2). Gulf Coast came into the game averaging 15.08 goals per game to BC’s, 14.83, both in the Top Ten in Scoring statewide. Barron’s stingy defense is ranked 3rd in the state with a 3.50 GAA, and it showed. Gulf Coast was frustrated all day with BC’s quick slides and great stick work. Solid goal play from both Soph Goalies (BC-Zach Woods, GC Nick Jardone) kept it exciting.
Barron Collier was led by its “Three Headed Attack Monster”. Sophomore Austin Miller led the Cougars with 4G/2A, Sr. Matt Ihm had 3G/2A & Jr. Mike O’Dea had 3G/1A. A quick, fluid and patient offense kept the Sharks on the move. Great D play from GC’s Noah Cuccini kept the quick striking Cougars slowed for a bit, but not for long. GC’s Sterling Desorcy (2015), led the Sharks with 2G/2A. Both teams are VERY young and will do nothing but get better. These boys are a glimpse of the future for SWFL. It looks good!
Both teams have big weeks coming up to prepare for the playoffs, BC hosts Tampa Jesuit (11-5) in a rematch of last years Regional Final (13-11 TJ win) & State Power Jupiter (12-2). GC hosts Cardinal Mooney (8-2) and Jupiter (12-2).
