This past Saturday, the Fighting Knights donned One Love warm up shirts before battling Florida Tech while raising awareness around campus all school year leading up to the game. The One Love Foundation was started in 2010 in honor of former UVA women’s lacrosse player, Yeardley Love, with the mission to spread awareness and end relationship abuse on college campuses. Teams across the country are joining the Yards for Yeardley initiative, committing to completing 1 million yards in 30 days in memory of Yeardley Love. “Our Title IX office with Lorna Fink and Matt Roche did a great job raising relationship violence awareness through the One Love Foundation,” said head coach Brian Kingsbury. “Playing a game in Yeardley’s honor helps bring the ‘big picture’ to these young men.” A total of 106 people submitted steps to the Title IX office as part of the Yards for Yeardley Challenge, accounting for over 1.7 million yards while shattering the 30-day goal of one million. The overall challenge winner, Christopher Knight, logged an impressive 420,000 yards with Lynn freshman David Czarlinsky leading the student population’s effort at 105,000. “It was great to be able to walk for such a meaningful cause,” Czarlinsky stated. “It was nice because everyone who walked pledged to end dating violence. Special thanks to Mandy Frogner and Athletics Marketing for tracking everyone’s yards and helping put on this entire event.” To learn more about Yeardley’s movement and the One Love Foundation, visit their website here. The Fighting Knights are back in action on the road this Saturday, April 1 for a 3 p.m. matchup at Tampa.
