(Women’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech (4-2) prepares for its toughest contest of the season so far in No. 6 New Haven (3-0) at 7 p.m. on Monday night at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium. The Panthers are riding a three-game winning streak heading into the matchup with the Chargers. Florida Tech overpowered NAIA No. 1 Savannah College of Art & Design 20-11 on Saturday. FIT stung SCAD for 13 first half goals. Three Panthers, freshmen Mary Gormley and Sara Grenier and sophomore Allie Modica, registered five goals in the victory over the Bees. It was Modica’s third consecutive game scoring five goals. Freshman Caroline Dunleavy recorded three goals and one assist and freshman Heather Molander tallied one goal and one assist. The Panthers’ offense has been flying high the last three games, outscoring their opponents 59-18. Modica, Grenier, Gormley and Dunleavy have led the way for FIT scoring 49 of the team’s 59 goals during the win streak. New Haven is coming off a major victory over No. 8 LIU Post on Saturday. Junior Maya Szymanski paced the Chargers with three goals. Senior Kathryn Campbell and sophomore Caitlin O’Brien scored two goals and dished out one assist apiece. LIU Post took a 5-2 lead into halftime off two first half goals by sophomore Stefani Vagelatos. The Chargers’ offense fired back in the second half, scoring nine goals and holding the Pioneers to just four goals. Junior Courtney Ackland gave New Haven its first lead of the game, 7-6, with 20 minutes remaining. New Haven closed the game on a 5-3 run, including all three of Szymanski’s goals, to walk away with the 11-9 win. New Haven’s defense has been stellar so far this season forcing 37 turnovers in its three games.
