What a barn burner to open the season!
Archbishop McCarthy started the game with 5 unasnwered goals and finished the first half with an8-2 lead. North Broward fought back in the 3rd quarter, however, and brought the score to 10-5. With 5 minutes left in the game the NBP Eagles were still down by four. However they continued to play relentless throughout the remainder of the game. Down only 2 goals with under two minutes, NBP pressured the Mavricks in the offensive box forcing a turnover and pushing the ball in transition resulting in a goal by Daniel Paponetti. With 1:12 left in regulation NBP regained possession and called a timeout. Freshman attackman Jake Simon fed senior Daniel Paponetti for the game tying goal with 32 seconds remaining in regulation. Simon won the opening face off of overtime and after a NBP timeout Paponetti scored his 10th goal of the game for the game winner.
In other action last night Vero Beach topped Starr’s Mill of GA 16-12 and Ransom Everglades defeated St. Ed’s 11-2.
