The Gainesville Eastside Rams opened their 2016 season last night at a frigid Citizen’s Field against the 1-0 Paxon Golden Eagles of Jacksonville. This was a non-district match-up, but no less exciting and hard fought. The Golden Eagles edged out the Rams with a 3-1 victory, improving to 2-0 on their season. This game was a defensive struggle, with Paxon benefiting from 1st Quarter goals by Bower and Luther, and a 2nd Quarter goal by Gruppa. Eastside was able to keep Paxon out of goal for the 3rd and 4th Quarters, with Senior Thomas Tang providing the Ram’s lone goal in the 4th Quarter. With the final score of 3-1, Eastside falls to 0-1 on their season, facing district opponent Ocala Trinity Catholic in Ocala at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17th. Paxon improves to 2-0 and plays at home against Gainesville High School on Friday, February 12th.
