Peak South Lacrosse Runs Successful Weekend
Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in Uncategorized.
Over the weekend of December 7th Peak South Lacrosse ran a successful clinic, recruiting showcase and tournament at Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach. Peak South is affiliated with Peak Lacrosse, which runs the Peak 200 Camp, a prestigious summer recruiting event in the Northeast for the past 20-plus years. Peak South is designed to be the southern version of its’ northern event and allows mostly Floridian-based players to be exposed to college coaches while gaining valuable training time. All 3 divisions of the NCAA were represented by head and assistant coaching staffs. Saturday morning and half of the afternoon were dedicated to skill development and the players were then broken down into teams for a mini-tournament that ended on Sunday.
Thanks to Evan Crosby of Peak for allowing FLN access to the event as well as allowing us to interact with the coaching staff. One special treat for the goalie participants was being able to work under Doc Schneider, assistant coach of the University of Massachusetts. Schneider helped lead U-Mass to the national championship game in his freshmen year where he recorded 17 saves against the University of Virginia in the finals. (As a Hobart grad I was glad to see him graduate . . . he killed us all four years).
All of the coaches present worked hard with the kids and many came away with recruiting possibilities.
I’d like to thank my colleague Brian Davis, who attended the full first day, for his insight into who stood out and this following section is based on his observations:
Team 1 –
Jersey No. 1 – Jordan Karp – fast smart attack.
#38 Evan Schimek – Solid LSM, great on the clears and will shoot the ball.
#46 – Alex Newhouse – Best Face off guy here; transferred to St. Andrews in the off season from St. Thomas Aquinas.
#63 – Dylan Rittenhouse from Downintown East, PA – I think maybe the best player at the event.
Team 2
#5 – Trevor Keena – 2016 Attack from Palm Beach Gardens. Best young attack man nobody has on their radar.
#86 – McCoy Berger – Pine Crest defender. Huge and plays tough.
#112 – Max Kreisler – St. Thomas Aquinas goalie. Solid; good outlets.
Team 3
#7 – Peter Dykas – 2016 St. Andrews attack – very talented.
#8 – Trevor Pelletier – 2016 Gulliver Prep Attack. Quickest kid on the field and can finish.
#40 – Dylan Garber – 2015 defenseman from Cypress Bay, another solid player who many have never heard of.
#100 – Chris Erdmann – 2015 middie/attack – from Benjamin
#76 – Zachary Woods, Barron Collier 2015 Goalie. I think he’s the best goalie there.
Team 4
#11 – Cameron Thompson – 2016 Benjamin Attack. Dependable finisher.
#12 – Addison Lutes’ – 2016 attack St. A’s. Maybe the top attack at the camp.
#48 – Alec Cumella – St. Thomas middie/FO – solid
#104 – Kevin Heckman – big fast Middie from Vero Beach. Stud.
Brian, thanks for the thoughts and we look forward to seeing many of these players take on greater roles in their upcoming high school seasons! And thanks to Peak and its’ coaches for again coming to our area and providing a top notch event!
