On a rainy and delayed full Saturday the IMG Ascenders defeated the H.B. Plant Panthers 17-9 at IMG Academy. After a three hour on and off again weather delay the IMG Ascenders and H.B. Plant Panthers varsity contest finally resumed and resulted in an IMG win 17-9. The win improved IMG to 13-1 and extended their win streak to 13 games and gave the Panthers their first loss of the season.
Plant started the game off scoring the first three goals of the game the first two coming off their first two possessions and the third goal coming off their fifth possession. However, after Plants third goal and a strategic time out by the IMG coaching staff, the IMG offense woke up and would end up scoring the next six goals to end the quarter. IMG got on the board after a key stop by starting goalie Luc Ruiz Funes that led to a transition goal that found the back of the net curtesy of attackman Brad Kent. Attackman George Price would get on the board as scored the next four goals for IMG followed by a man up goal by attackman Sean Donnelly to end the quarter, giving IMG the 6-3 advantage heading into the second quarter.
IMG followed suit as they would start the second quarter off by scoring the next three goals of the quarter, most notably a man up goal by attackman Brad Kent that stung the top right corner from about ten yards out. The weather would become a factor for the remainder of the second quarter as both teams offensives began to struggle as the wet field conditions came into play. However, both teams would trade goals right before the second quarter ended giving IMG a 10-4 advantage headed into half time.
The third quarter played our very similar as the second quarter as IMG offense came out firing scoring the first two goals of the quarter off their first three offensive possessions. Plant would answer back after IMG’s second goal but the momentum stayed with the Ascenders as they continued to score three straight goals before Plant could answer again. Both teams played very physical and traded a lot of possession but the quarter belonged to IMG as they outscored Plant 7-3 pushing the score to 17-7 at the end of the third.
Plant came out in the fourth quarter firing as they tried to shift the game’s momentum back in their favor as they scored the next two goals of the quarter. IMG goal keeper Luc Ruiz Funes thwarted any type of serious push from Plant as he made two phenomenal saves in the fourth quarter one being a great man down save, unfortunately Mother Nature became a serious factor in the final quarter and the game was officially called due to inclement weather and would give the IMG Ascenders the 17-9 win over the visiting H.B. Plant Panthers.
IMG will return to action on March 22nd against the visiting Arapaho High School Warriors from Colorado to conclude their regular season. Plant’s next contest will be at home on March 21st against the Alonso Ravens. IMG would like to thank all the family and friends that endured the harsh weather conditions and delays during their game.
