Playoff Preview – Melbourne Central Catholic Vs. Viera

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
This is a rematch of the game played April 4th at Viera, with MCC winning that game 22-6.  Viera actually led 5-4 after the first quarter before MCC outscored them 18-1 the rest of the way.  Viera represents District 17 and MCC represents District 18.  Viera has compiled a record of 15-4 on the year and comes off a District final where they prevailed over Merritt Island 20-14 in the final after Merritt Island had swept them in the regular season in a home and home series.  MCC currently stands at 14-3 with their losses to Vero Beach, Ponte Vedra and Seminole.  They had no trouble with their District, scoring 46 goals in the two games. I haven’t seen Viera play but I did cover the MCC loss to Ponte Vedra.  That game was not close on the scoreboard as PV played a terrific game and pretty much anything that could have gone wrong for MCC that night, did. I really don’t know much about the Viera roster and their season statistics.  When you look at their schedule the biggest win they have was over Merritt Island while MCC has wins over Martin County, Wellington, Winter Park and Oviedo, and handled Merritt Island handily. MCC is led by the Lowdermilk Brothers, Dylan and Quinn, Zach Fleis and Garrett Arnold.  Fleis led the team with 83 goals so far, and Arnold has chipped in 38 on attack, and Dylan scored 68 of his own.  Dylan also compiled a .786 faceoff percentage this season. Based on their earlier matchup this should be a relatively easy first round for MCC to advance to the winner of the Benjamin-Jensen Beach game.
