Ponte Vedra continues to play well, wrapping up a strong win over a good Bolles team tonight. The PV Sharks shut out the Bulldogs in the first quarter, jumping out to a 5-0 lead with goals scored by Eric Applegate, Miles Silva, Clay Welch and two by midfielder Ben Buchanan. Bolles had some chances, taking 11 shots but failing to connect. Credit goalie Colin Peaks for a couple of really nieces saves in the first quarter and a total of six in the first half.
Early in the second period, Bulldog’s goalie Ben Abram blocked a couple of shots before Ponte Vedra’s Ryan Wiele scored, putting the Sharks up 6-0. Bolles finally got on the board with two goals by Gray King. But Ponte Vedra sophomore Marshall Few locked down Bulldogs senior attackman Anthony Teixeira, a Cornell commit, and the Sharks led 9-2 at the half.
In the third quarter, Alexander Mostovych scored the third goal for Bolles. Then Ponte Vedra’s Cord Bishop had a snipe to the top right, leading a Sharks scoring frenzy that included goals by Logan Taucher, Rob Peeters, Quinn Larson, Silva, Buchanan, Reid Smith and Few. Bolles scored once more on a shot by Max Cussen, making the final score 18-4. Silva again led his team in scoring with 4 goals. Buchanan had three, and Smith and Peeters tied with two. Ponte Vedra (11-1) travels to Jupiter (9-2) Friday then faces Gulliver Prep (7-2) on Saturday. Bolles has two weeks off before hosting Creekside (4-5.)
