Lacrosse season is upon us! The 2nd Annual Catholic High School Lacrosse Invitational tournament kicks off the new season. Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton will again host this preseason event for Catholic high schools from around the state. The tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15. Games will be played at both Pope John Paul II High School and at Patch Reef Park in Boca.
Pope’s Head Lacrosse Coach Andrew Bolger hopes to encourage all lacrosse fans to “join us and see first hand the excitement of high school varsity lacrosse.” “Last year we received positive feedback from the coaches who brought teams to this tournament. They were complimentary of the beautiful facilities and the fields at Patch Reef Park, it is a nice way to showcase the City of Boca Raton.” “We had college coaches in attendance and there were players who received attention. This just demonstrates that Florida is becoming a hotbed for college lacrosse recruiting.”
The teams attending this year have some of the top 2014 players in the state including already committed D1, D2 and D3 student athletes who have recently signed National Letters of Intent and will be heading to some of the leading lacrosse schools in the country.
Teams attending this year’s event are Pope John Paul II High School (Boca Raton), Cardinal Gibbons High School (Ft. Lauderdale), Cardinal Newman High School (W. Palm Beach), Belen Jesuit High School (Miami). Cardinal Mooney High School (Sarasota) and Archbishop McCarthy High School (Southwest Ranches) and John Carroll High School (Ft. Pierce).
Admission on Friday at Pope High School is $5 (under 12 is free). Games will be played from 4:30 – 9:00. Games on Saturday will be played at Patch Reef Park from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and are free.
