Over the past weekend the Saint Andrew’s School hosted their its Prep School Lacrosse Showcase for 8th to 11th graders. Sponsored by the ELEVEN Lacrosse Group, the event went beyond it’s intention to highlight lacrosse players working and meeting with major college coaches to include activities for the families. Which made for a fun day for the families while the players could give their entire focus on the task at hand. The event drew players from all over, as about 60% of the participants came from outside the state of Florida! Okay, maybe the weather had a LITTLE to do with it . . .
What made this event special for the players was the coaching was handled by a number of the Top Division One head coaches in America as well as a number of top Division 3 programs too. Headlining the event were:
Lars Tiffany – Head Coach, Brown University
Matt Kerwick – Head Coach, Cornell University
Mike Murphy – Head Coach, University of Pennsylvania
John Walker – Assistant Coach, Princeton University
From the Division 3 ranks:
Jack Sandler – Head Coach, Colby College
Max Silberlicht – Assistant Coach, Bowdoin College
Drew Bezek – Assistant Coach, Hamilton College
Gus Brakeley – Assistant Coach, Middlebury School
Chris Eccles – Assistant Coach, Swarthmore College
Brian Praetorius – Assistant Coach, Trinity College
Derek Witheford – Assistant Coach, Union College
Mike Silipo – Assistant Coach, Williams College
Obviously, another benefit of this event to players AND parents is that each of these schools are academically in the Top tier of schools nationwide, giving the ability of the family to also gain insight into what it takes to matriculate and handle schoolwork at these types of schools.
The mornings focused on skills and drills and the afternoon focused on playing games and giving the coaches present the ability to see the kids apply their early lessons while also watching how they react to game situations against their peers.
All in all a great weekend of local lacrosse!
