via press release – photo via Rollins web site YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  (February 12, 2017) – The 20^th-ranked Rollins men’s lacrosse team closed out their opening weekend with a 12-6 South Region victory over Young Harris on Sunday afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.  The win advances the Tars’ overall record to 2-0, while the Mountain Lions drop to 0-3 overall.Jack Vonarb  led the way for the Tars, notching four goals and an assist for a team high five points.  Justin Diamond followed close behind, tallying a hat trick and an assist for four points.  Greg Taicher notched two goals and one assist for three points on the day, while Nicholas Schultz, Connor Ashton, and Dalton LeMaster each scored once.  Clay Phillips and Carson Buell led the team in assists with two apiece, while Blake Buell added an assist of his own.In goal, Jake Hogan saw a full 60 minutes of action, earning six saves as he faced 25 shots on the afternoon.  Young Harris saw Mason King play a full game between the pipes, earning seven saves as he faced 32 total shots.The Mountain Lions were led by Bevan Pate, who tallied a team high four points with two goals and two assists.  Sam Gasta notched two goals and one assist, while Matty Ledon and Chandler Bradley each contributed one goal apiece.STAT LEADERSRollins

HIGHLIGHTS AND QUARTER-BY-QUARTER ANALYSIS First Quarter l Rollins opened up the game scoring three unanswered goals in the first quarter, including a goal and an assist by Diamond.Second Quarter l The Tars opened up the second stanza with another goal to pull out to a 4-0 lead, but Young Harris was able to break the streak with an unassisted goal by Pate with 11:08 to go before the half.  Rollins outscored the Mountain Lions 4-2 in the remaining minutes of the quarter to enter into the break with an 8-3 lead.Third Quarter l The Tars held Young Harris off of the board for the entire third quarter while scoring two of their own, giving Rollins a 10-3 lead heading into the final quarter.Fourth Quarter l Vonarb connected a pass to Diamond for the first goal of the fourth quarter, giving the Tars their largest lead of the game with a score of 11-3.  The Mountain Lions answered back with two straight, before Ashton broke the run with his lone goal at the 8:53 mark.  Despite Young Harris’ best efforts, a staunch Rollins defense held the Mountain Lions to just one goal in the remaining minutes, closing out the game with a score of 12-6.INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

GAME NOTES

• The Tars were successful on all 18 of their clear attempts on the day.
• Rollins held Young Harris off the board for two whole quarters.
• It was a physical contest with both teams picking up six penalties apiece – in total, the game saw a total of 10 minutes and 30 seconds of penalties.
• Rollins’ extra-man offense scored on four of their six total opportunities – on the opposite end of the field, the Tars’ man-down defense held the Mountain Lions to just two goals on six total opportunities.
• Sunday’s game against Young Harris marks the fourth time the two programs have met on the field with Rollins leading the series, 4-0.
• Last time out against Young Harris, the Tars took down the Mountain Lions by a final score of 13-6 on February 7, 2016.
