SET-UP:
After checking in at No. 20 on the USILA Division Poll, the Rollins men’s lacrosse team is set to welcome North Greenville to Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field. Rollins enters into their ninth game of the season with a record of 4-4, most recently having fallen in a hard fought contest to Colorado Mesa on Thursday evening.
North Greenville makes the trek to Winter Park with a record of 5-2 and are coming off of a 9-7 loss to No. 15 Saint Leo University. Prior to their contest against the Lions, the Crusaders were riding a four game win streak, picking up wins over Young Harris (14-6), Emmanuel College (15-4), Shorter (19-4), and Walsh (8-5). NGU, who is in their third year as a varsity program, finished their 2016 campaign with a record of 5-10.
TRACKING THE TARS:
Leading Rollins in goals on the season is Justin Diamond with 18, followed close behind by Greg Taicher with 17. Connor Ashton has also tallied double-digit goals with 11 on the year. Taicher leads the team in overall points with 27, adding a team high 10 assists to his goal count. Carson Buell is second on the team in assists with five, followed by Ashton and Clay Phillips with four each. Lucas Brush has compiled a team high 26 ground balls this season, followed by Andrew Matthews with 23. Brush also leads the team in caused turnovers with nine, while Austin Jackson and Evan Schimek have earned seven apiece. At the faceoff-x, Trey LaPorta has posted a .533 win percentage, winning 72-of-135 attempts, while Brett Portera has tallied a.552 win percentage, winning 16-of-29 so far this year. In goal, Jake Hogan has started the last seven games for the Tars, seeing a total of 483 minutes between the pipes. The junior has allowed 74 goals, averaging 9.19 per game, while making 73 saves for a save percentage of .511.
TRACKING THE CRUSADERS:
After five games played, the Crusaders are led by both Jake Foster and Austin Dixon with 15 goals apiece. Dixon leads the team in overall points with 22, adding seven assists, followed closely by Foster with 21 as he’s dished out six assists. Alex Proly has notched seven goals and seven assists for 14 points on the season. Logan Bryant has amassed a team high 23 goals in five games while also winning 47-of-78 faceoffs for a win percentage of .603. Proly has earned a team second best 17 ground balls in five games. Topping the team in caused turnovers is Chris Wieckhorst with five, followed by Proly, Zach Randolph, Dawson Long, and Sky Dupree with four apiece. In goal, Braeden Dixon has seen a total of 265 minutes between the pipes in five games, making 45 saves while allowing 35 goals. Dixon averages 7.91 goals allowed, and has compiled a save percentage of .562 in five games.
