Saint Andrew’s Has Everything Working in Dominant Win over LHP

Saint Andrew’s eighth grade F/O specialist, Gable Braun, caused trouble for Lake Highland from the opening whistle as he drew a cross checking- penalty to give his team an EMO on the first possession. Peter Dykas used the opportunity to find an opening and worked right down the string line for a easy shot to give SA a 1-0 lead just :35 into the game. Saint Andrew’s senior middie, Davis Diamond, appeared to be everywhere, creating opportunities for the Scots and creating havoc in the transition.  Brian Fox scored his first of the game with 9:23 left in the first. The first quarter got away from Lake Highland as Saint Andrews used incredible team speed to be the first to every ground ball, push transition, and get creative with the offense. Nick Diamond took a pass from freshman Matt Adams and made a great spinning back hand shot to go up 3-0.  Brian Fox got his second with a blistering shot and Mark Heatzig scored on a BTB to make it 5-0 and all Saint Andrews at the end of one. Early in the second quarter Saint Andrews’ Carl Klepper got in on the scoring with the first of his team high four goals.  Nick Iznaga (3 goals) and Davis Diamond (1 goal, 2 assists) both scored to push the score to 8-0 before LHP was finally able to get on the board.  Jack Phillips (1 goal, 1 assist) scored to put LHP on the board with 4:47 left in the half.  The rest of the half Lake Highland played with some higher energy and began to control the ball and get some better looks.  But the better the LHP offense looked the better Nick Ferraro looked in the goal.  Ferraro is a seriously talented athlete who makes big stops, plays excellent angles, and can really handle and clear the ball well. The second half was more of the same.  Lake Highland would get some ball control working but Ferraro turned them away with great goalie play and the Saint Andrews teams speed led to more opportunities.  Saint Andrews scored in transition, on EMO’s, and in settled situations. Some solid individual efforts for Lake Highland evidenced the Highlanders never lost heart.  Defensman Buck Dailey had a great coast to coast goal as he caught the Scots flatfooted on a restart and took it to the pipes.  Jackson Colling had his shot working well and was able to get a big shot past Ferraro. At the end of the fourth quarter the game actually got into a running clock situation.  Carl Klepper led all scorers with 4 goals, Nick Iznaga had a hat trick, Brian Fox and Peter Dykas both had 2 goals and an assist.  Davis Diamond had 1 goal and 2 assists. His impact on the game went well beyond stats, however.  A very fast, talented, and dynamic player. Nick Diamond and Mark Heatzig both scored twice.  F/O Man Gable Braun scored once as did Charlie Moreno.  Matt Adams, Xavier McCormack, and Andrew Seelye each registered once assist. Jack Phillips led the Highlanders with a goal and an assist.  Christian Cisneros, Buck Daley, Jackson Colling, Brandon Mintzer, and Christian Grenci all scored one for LHP and Lukas Kott had an assist. The Scots play Lake Mary today at 1:00 at Lake Mary and the Highlanders prepare to host McDonogh on Monday.
