Saint Leo Men: Tatarian Named National Defensive Player of the Week!

via press release – photo via SL web site   SAINT LEO, Fla. – Sophomore Thomas Tatarian was named the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse / BSN Sports DII National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance over the week of March 13 – March 19, 2017. Tatarian picked up a two-win week as the Lions topped both Alabama-Huntsville and North Greenville. In the Lions win over UAH, Tatarian finished with 12 saves and only allowed two goals in 45 minutes of action. In the Lions win over NGU, the sophomore snagged a career-high 16 saves. He finished with 28 saves on the week, and a 75.7-save percentage while adding two ground balls. He faced a total of 53 shots, and only allowed nine total goals in two games. The sophomore keeper ranks eighth nationally in save percentage with a mark of 59.8, and 19th in saves per game at 11.29. Tatarian is the first Saint Leo men’s lacrosse athlete to earn a national player of the week honor this season, and the first to win an honor since Dave Moore was named the DII National Defensive Player of the Week back on March 24, 2016. Saint Leo returns to the turf on Friday, March 24 for a 7 p.m. contest with Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern.
