via press release – photo via SL web site   SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team handed the visiting Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville just their third loss of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Lions claimed the win, 18-15, at University Turf Stadium. The Lions saw three different players put up hat tricks, led by senior Caroline Fraser who recorded a career-high five goals. Fellow senior Kelsey Burns and junior Abbie Ross each added three as well. Katherine Larson and Delany Chrisco each added two goals, while Chrisco also tacked on an assist. Saint Leo finished the game with 15 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls, while keeper Becca Halley, who played the whole first half and last 12 minutes of the second, finished with six saves, including a crucial diving save in the final minute of action. Records: Saint Leo 5-3 | UAH 9-3 How it happened 1H | For the second-straight game, the Lions saw Katherine Larson start off the scoring. However, the Chargers responded and that patterned continued to occur. Caroline Fraser scored her first of the game on a FPS, but then the Chargers answered less than a minute later. Abbie Ross added the third for the Green and Gold, but Ala. – Huntsville countered and tied it at 3-all. The Lions would break free as Delaney Chrisco, Fraser and Sabrina Sanacore would score to give the Lions a three-goal cushion. The Chargers ended the run with 4:09 to play in the half. A Kelsey Burns goal and an Abbie Ross goal sandwiched a UAH goal in the final 90-seconds to close out the half. | Saint Leo 8-5, 2H | The second half was a high-scoring affair as both teams tallied ten goals apiece. The Chargers would get on the board early, but off a dish from Kaylah Walstad, Fraser would net her third of the game. Ross would add her third goal of the match. UAH would then respond with two of their own before Burns would tack on her second. A UAH goal was followed by a Chrisco goal just 10 seconds off the draw as the freshman snagged the ball and sprinted towards the goal uncontested and netted the score. Larson would tack on her second of the game off a free position shot before two UAH goals followed. Caroline Fraser tallied back-to-back goals, the first coming off a free position shot.  The second came just 20 seconds later as Chrisco again won the draw and sprinted down the field. This time she hit Kaylah Walstad who then found Fraser for the score. Again UAH would score back-to-back goals, but this time it was Lexie Walstad who ended their run. Leslie Ferguson hit her with a beautiful pass that led directly to the score. UAH defender Megan Hartnett recorded a score with 7:21 left making it just a two-goal game, but an Emily Pittenger free position shot cleared any hope. With 3:37 remaining, an unfortunate turnover by the Lions gave the Chargers a one-on-one shot with Halley, and they were able to net the goal. But with 22 seconds remaining, a dagger by Burns stifled any changes the Chargers thought they had. Halley also recorded a diving save on the Chargers final possession to keep the score at 18-15. | Saint Leo 18-15 Points to note Kelsey Burns now has 87 career goals and is tied for the Saint Leo career record. Rebecca Halley finished with six saves. Caroline Fraser has 27 points this season with 15 goals, both career-highs for a single season by the senior.
