Saint Leo: Women’s Lacrosse Downs Young Harris 15-10

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team took down Young Harris, 15-10, following a strong first half of action at Young Harris Soccer and Lacrosse Field on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Caroline Fraser dished out three assists on the day, and entering the game the Little Compton, Rhode Island native, needed just one assist to break the Saint Leo record for assists in a single season. Fraser was tied at 14, and her three assists on the day took her to the top.

How it happened
1H | Young Harris scored the first goal of the game after gaining possession off a miscue on a Saint Leo free position shot. Saint Leo was able to even up the score as Caroline Fraser dished off her record-breaking 15th assist of the season to find Abbie Ross for the score. Katherine Larson would then find Delaney Chrisco for the Lions’ second goal. Young Harris earned an FPS with 22:27 to play, but Rebecca Halley come up with a big save to give possession back to the Lions. That ensuing possession resulted in a Sabrina Sanacore goal, with the assist again going to Fraser. Sanacore would tally her second straight score, this time off a pass from Kaylah Walstad. Ross would then find Leslie Ferguson for the fast-break goal, giving the Lions a 5-1 lead. Then off a free position attempt for Sanacore, the freshman chose to pass to Fraser who was wide open next to the goal. Fraser was at the perfect angle to hit Kaylah Walstad with the pass for the score. The Mountain Lions would sneak in their second of the game with 11:36 left to play in the half. Ferguson would add her second of the game with a little over six minutes of action remaining in the half. Chrisco would add her second of the game off the pass from Ferguson. Off the following draw, Kelsey Burns, who snagged the draw control, ran down the field untouched to record her first goal of the game. 2H | Abbie Ross opened things up for the Lions, and Larson followed making it a 12-2 game. Saint Leo then saw Leslie Ferguson snag her fourth of the game before the hosts would get on the board, making it 13-4. Young Harris would score three more before Abbie Ross would tally her third off a pass from Sabrina Sanacore. The Mountain Lions would score back-to-back goals in just 10 seconds of time, making it 14-8, and then would add a third four minutes later. Kelsey Burns would rip a free position shot for the Lions 15th goal. The hosts would score the final goal of the game with 2:02 left in the action. Both teams won seven draws, while both teams also grabbed eight ground balls. | Saint Leo 15-10
Points to note
Leslie Ferguson finished with a team-high five points, scoring four goals and adding an assist.
Both Sabrina Sanacore and Abbie Ross finished with four points. Sanacore dished out a pair of assists and added two goals, while Ross finished with a hat trick and an assist.
Ross had an all-around solid day, finishing with three caused turnovers and adding one draw and one ground ball.
