With the addition of Newberry last year and now Sante Fe High School District 3 has grown to eight teams.  The Gainesville area now has twice as many schools fielding FHSAA programs as it did just a few years ago.  In 2010 only Buchholz, P.K. Yonge,  and Oak Hall participated in district play with Eastside playing as an FHSAA independent. The hiring of an experienced coach like Coach Mac is a great first step for this program.  Coach Mac was the head coach at Buchholz in their 2014 and 2015 seasons when they accumulated a 31-7 overall record and two district championship game appearances.  He also worked on the Oak Hall staff last season as well as coaching at Danbury High School in Connecticut for 7 years previously. Coach Mac said, “Lacrosse is a sport which is growing quickly in the Alachua County area. The young men at Santa Fe H.S. are looking for an opportunity to establish and grow a competitive program at Santa Fe. I am committed to eventually put Santa Fe H.S. on the North Florida Lacrosse Map. I am extremely thankful for the support of the Athletic Director and Principal who are just as excited as I. Play hard and smart.”
