FLN has asked new Head Coach Doug Shanahan of St. Brendan High School in Miami to continue to share his thoughts on how he is building his new program through what is now their second season and Doug has graciously agreed to do so. Here is his first submission for 2016! We thank Doug for taking the time to do this and letting our readers experience this unique insight.   I am really happy to be back writing for Florida Lacrosse News in 2016. St Brendan lacrosse continues to improve on a daily basis. With a full year playing club with Empire Elite Lacrosse and last year’s 2015 season behind us, we have seen tremendous growth in most of our players. This year will pose some new challenges for the coaches: last year everyone was at the same beginning point as far as the skill and lacrosse IQ. This year, with an influx of brand new players, the task will be to catch up the new guys and structure practices so everyone can advance their skill and knowledge, as well as developing team communication.   Shanahan StB 2016 #2          Shanahan StB 2016 #1   The greatest challenge may lie in the fact that St Brendan is entering District 30 this season, with well known lacrosse schools like Columbus, Belen and Ransom Everglades. Our goal is simple, there are 6 teams vying for 4 possible spots. We want to find a way to be in the top 4!
