FLN has learned that the All Americans and South Florida Chapter Coach of the Year have been named today.
In addition, 17 names have been submitted for Academic All American and those submissions will be forwarded to a review board of educators, with a target of 10 names being granted that award.
Based on discussions I have learned that 22 players were up for consideration, making it a difficult task to narrow it down to 10 names. The South Florida chapter was reduced from 12 to 10 this year, probably due to the reduction of the ratio of players named to schools playing in the Chapter’s region. The old ratio being 1 AA for five schools and the new one being 1 AA for 6 schools.
First, the Coach of the Year for the Chapter is Alan Bellando of Belen Jesuit. Coach Bellando has led Belen to a current record of 19-2, with a Final 16 matchup with Gulliver Prep coming up Tuesday.
And here are the 10 All Americans as voted on today (from north to south geographically)!
