Spartans Send Pioneers Packing

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Tusculum College Pioneers by a final score of 16-11 on Thursday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
Tampa improves to 4-5 on the season, while Tusculum falls to 5-2 on the season.
The Spartans jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, as Amanda Voges netted in the first two goals on the day. The Pioneers then quickly responded, as they netted the next two goals to even the score back at 2. The rest of the first half went back in forth, as UT led 9-8.
In the second half, the Pioneers were able to jump on the Spartans as they took their first lead of the game at 9-8, when Calyn Kelly blasted a shot past the Tampa goalie. After a UT timeout, the Tampa offense was able to string out three consecutive goals to take the lead for good.
After Tusculum was able to get the deficit to 12-11, Tampa was able to score the final four goals to seal the game.
Voges led the way for the Spartans as she recorded four points, as she netted in three goals and dished out an assist. Amanda Rom, Mackenzie Perna and Shannon Sweeney each contributed with two goals a piece. Emilie Barbosa served as a facilitator, as she dished out three assists on the afternoon.
Madison Creech, Natalie Carraway, Kirsten Brierey, and Paige DiGiglio each added a goal for Tampa.
The Spartans will be back in action on Monday, as they welcome in Savannah College of Arts and Design. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
