SSC Lacrosse Players of the Week – 4/17/17

via press release   Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Conor Whipple / University of Tampa / Sr. / Attack / Tampa, Florida Whipple is awarded his fourth Offensive Player of the Week award, second consecutive, after helping the Spartans to their fourth straight conference regular season championship. The Tampa native recorded eight total points in a victory against Florida Tech. Whipple recorded five assists and tallied three goals in the 15-10 victory. The Spartans are now 11-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The honor is Whipple’s 12th of his career, the most in SSC lacrosse history. Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Matt Lalli / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Goalkeeper / New Milford, Connecticut Lalli earns his third Defensive Player of the Week award after a solid effort in goal for Florida Southern against RV Rollins. Lalli stopped 17 shots and allowed eight goals on 42 shots faced to record a 68% save percentage in a 9-8 victory against Rollins. The New Milford, Connecticut native had two key saves while the Moccasins faced man-down situations. He also collected two ground balls in the victory. Florida Southern is now 7-6 overall and 2-2 in SSC play. The honor is Lalli’s eighth of his career, the second most in SSC lacrosse history. Men’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week Dryden Brous / Lynn University / Fr. / Faceoff / Ocean City, Maryland Brous earns his third Specialist Player of the Week honor, second consecutive, after going 19-for-24 (79.2 percent) in the faceoff X during a 13-8 victory over No. 16 Saint Leo. The Ocean City, Maryland native also picked up nine ground balls and tallied an assist in the victory. On the season he has a 67.4 winning percentage in the faceoff X. The Fighting Knights are now 5-6 over and 1-3 in conference play.   ==========   Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Kendall Kerge / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Attack / Edgewater, Maryland Kerge earns her second Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring seven goals and tallying two assists in two games last week. The Edgewater, Maryland native had her best performance in an 18-5 victory over No. 5 Rollins where she scored six goals, dished out two assists, and picked up a ground-ball on the defensive side. Kerge provided the Moccasins one goal, one draw control, one ground ball, and one caused turnover in a 15-5 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne. With the help of Kerge, Florida Southern is now 16-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Meghan Vadala / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Defender / Rochester, New York Vadala earns the Defensive Player of the Week after picking up six ground balls, winning six draw controls, and causing five turnovers in two games. The Rochester, New York native collected five ground balls, caused four turnovers, and handled three draw controls in the 18-5 victory over No. 5 Rollins. With the help of Vadala, the Moccasins held the Tars to just five goals which is nine less than their season average of 14.0 gpg. Also, in a 15-5 win over Lenoir-Rhyne, Vadala had a ground ball, three draw controls, and a caused turnover.  The Moccasins are now 16-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
