Tampa Catholic delivers first loss to Cardinal Mooney

The Cardinal Mooney Cougars suffered their first defeat last night in a district re-match with Tampa Catholic. Tampa C atholic made good adjustments from the first meeting of these two and got out to an early lead, scoring 5 goals in the first half to Mooney’s 2. The second half CMHS tightened up and fought back within one.   But in the In the 4th quarter TC’s Gerry Brogan hit an open Kyle Miller for what would be the winning goal.  The final was 7-6. Tyler Prado led Tampa Catholic in scoring with 4 goals and Alex Hoffman was solid at goalie with 17 saves. Cardinal Mooney coach Clayton Wight said after the game, “Some of our weaknesses finally caught up to us and we had mental errors. Tampa Catholic beat us up on ground balls and out hustled us. It’s hard to win a game like that.”  CMHS and Tampa Catholic are tied for the lead in  the district as both are 3-1 in district competition.  Next up for Cardinal Mooney is a road trip to the Community School of Naples on Wednesday.  Tampa Catholic will play at Berkeley Prep on Tuesday.
