Tampa Jesuit Tigers (7-8) hosted the Hagerty Huskies (7-7) on Tuesday night. The Tigers were trying to get back to .500 while the Huskies were hoping to come out with a winning record, but the Tigers prevailed with a hard fought 5-4 win in a very low scoring game. The Huskies got on the board first at the 10:35 mark in the first quarter with an unassisted goal by Parker Morris but that would be their only goal of the first half as the Tiger defense held tight only allowing 5 shots in the first half. The Tigers got on the board with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter with a goal by Luke Royack on a nice feed from Brock Mondor ending the first quarter tied 1-1. The Huskies goalkeeper Tanner Ward had a tremendous game making 10 saves on 18 shots in the first half thwarting the Tigers good scoring opportunities, but the Tigers managed to take the lead with a late goal with just 8 seconds remaining by John Bencievenga on a feed from Brock Mondor (2nd assist of game) going into the half up 2-1. Bencievenga ( 2nd of the game) struck again in the opening minutes of the 2nd half on a feed from Jake Lemon to extend the lead 3-1 and it looked like the Tigers had taken firm control of the game. The Huskie offense seemed to wake up after that, shooting 11 shots in the 3rd quarter and scoring 2 consecutive goals. Ethan Geiger scoring on a nice feed from Granite Porcher at the 9:36 mark and Jared Collins scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 3-3 while taking advantage of a man up opportunity. Jesuit retook the lead late in the 3rd quarter with 1:02 remaining on a goal by Arthur Ward assisted by Chris Conn, ending the 3rd quarter Jesuit 4 Hagerty 3. The Huskies tied the game again early in the 4th quarter with a goal from Jared Collins (2nd of the game) assisted by Logan Hearsey in the 11:21 mark of the 4th quarter. It looked like the momentum was shifting towards the Huskies, but the Tigers took the lead for good on a nice dodge and finish with 5:25 remaining by Joe McGonnigal to end the game with a 5-4 Tiger victory. Jesuit (8-8) next faces District 15 opponent Robinson (2-8) and Hagerty (7-8) next faces District 8’s Lyman(3-11). Scoring Summary Jesuit Goals Benceivenga 2, McGonnigal 1, Royak 1, A.
