Team Florida Game of the Week
Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in Uncategorized.
Our Team Florida game of the week was rained out last week and we hope to have it re-scheduled. We will keep everyone up to date on those developments.
The Team Florida Game of the week this week is Friday’s District 10 match-up between Winter Park and Boone HS. District 10 is arguably one of the most competitive districts in the state, featuring three teams ranked in LaxPower.com’s top ten in the state of Florida.
Currently, Winter Park is 4-0 in district play and Boone and Timber Creek are both 3-1. If Timber Creek wins Monday night over Trinity Prep and Boone beats Winter Park on Friday, the top three teams in District 10 will all be 4-1 with no clear head to head winner. Timber Creek beat Boone on March 11th and Winter Park beat Timber Creek on March 23rd.  A victory by Boone would mean that the top seed in District 10 is to be decided by a coin toss.
The big key to Friday night’s game is whether or not Boone is prepared for the speed of Winter Park. Since their loss to Timber Creek,  Boone has played Trinity Prep, Lake Howell, University, and Freedom. All teams who should be proud of the efforts they put forth, but none of them have Winter Park type of speed and depth. In that same time period Winter Park has played Ponte Vedra, Timber Creek, Vero Beach, Lake Highland Prep, and Bishop Moore.Â
Winter Park has the upper hand in terms of experience in dealing with big games, big crowds, and fast transition. However, Boone has proven that they can put good scoring runs together and they did play tough defense against the two top teams they have played this season, Lake Brantley and Timber Creek.
Winter Park has absolutely been tested this season, though they have faltered a couple of times, they have toughness, depth, and plenty of speed. Boone is coming into the game somewhat untested. It seems as if Winter Park is the favorite in this match up, but if Boone pulls off a victory District 10 will be a mess.
That is assuming Timber Creek can get past Trinity Prep tonight. Update – Timber Creek defeated Trinity Prep 23-11.
Another great game this week is the undefeated St. Thomas Aquinas traveling to Lake Highland Prep. This will be a classic match-up of an elite Central Florida team vs. an elite South Florida team. They play Saturday at Lake Highland Prep.
