Team Florida Showcase and Academy on Tap for This Weekend

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
We will be in Jupiter this weekend to cover the biggest recruiting events in the State.  This is the eighth year for the Summer Showcase. Although the event is often perceived as the “Team Florida Try-Outs” it is actually an event in itself.  Over 60 college coaches have committed to attend making this one of the most well attended showcase events in Florida.  This year, over 525 die hard lacrosse players have registered for the event.  Players, from Virginia, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina.

The U-15 group plays in their own event which is directed by college coaches. The Team Florida coaches will be on hand to select a team to take to the TRI-STATE Invitational in Princeton, NJ and select a team to represent Florida at the U-15 US Lacrosse Championships at Disney. The U-17 and U-19 divisions have 200 of the state’s top players signed up to play in front of the coaches.  Team Florida will select four teams to attend the Battle of the Hotbeds. For many players this event is more than a try-out, it is their first taste of the pressure of playing against teams filled with top shelf talent.  Not to mention playing at this level in front of coaches like Richie Meade, who is looking to put some of Florida’s talent on his Furman roster. Coaches from all levels are expected to be in attendance.  Some are familiar to the event and have consistently brought our Florida players into their programs.  Byron Collins for Rutgers is making the trip.  Rutgers has signed three of our home grown players in just the last two years. There are coaches from brand new programs that will be in attendance.  Brian Kingsbury of Lynn University in Boca, Bill Olin of Capital College in Columbus, OH, and Brevard College’s Kevin Anderson (NC) are all looking to fill start up rosters.  D3 programs like Berry and Centre College, each of whom took Florida players to the SAA Conference finals, are coming down and hope to continue to build their programs with Florida talent. In all, over 60 collegiate coaches from all levels are going to descend on Jupiter this weekend.  200 of the State’s top players will be bringing everything they have to impress the NCAA D1, D2, and D3 and MCLA coaches. We will be on hand reporting each day on who shines out there. Be sure to follow the action by checking in on the site or following us on Twitter @FloridaLX.
