UF: Gators and Pioneers Meet In A Battle of Offense Versus Defense on Saturday

via press release – photo via UF web site   GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida women’s lacrosse team (7-1, 1-0) is set to host No. 13 Denver (7-1, 1-0) on Saturday, in the Gators’ first home BIG EAST Conference game. Saturday’s matchup marks Florida’s sixth game against a ranked opponent, including five straight at home: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 3 Southern California, No. 7 Stony Brook, No. 5 Syracuse, and No. 13 Denver. The opening draw is set for 12 P.M. from Donald R. Dizney Stadium. A live stream of the game will be available via YouTube, with Daniel Gillman and Connor Buckridge on the call. No. 3 Florida vs. No. 13 Denver Live Stream No. 3 Florida enters Saturday’s tilt winners of seven straight games by an average margin of 7.7 goals. Four Gators have scored at least 30 points this season: Shayna Pirreca (36), Sammi Burgess (35), Mollie Stevens (34), and Sydney Pirreca (30). Florida’s defense has held seven out of eight opponents under their season scoring average, and boasts 187 combined starts between Taylor Bresnahan, Caroline Fitzgerald, Aniya Flanagan, Haley Hicklen, and Cara Trombetta. No. 13 Denver is playing its first season as a member of the BIG EAST. The Pioneers have scored wins over two ranked opponents: No. 12 Stanford and No. 18 Louisville. Sophomore attacker Kendra Lanzuna (16 goals, 17 assists) and senior goalkeeper Maddy Stevenson (50 saves, .476 save percentage) lead the Pioneers. Gator Offense vs. Pioneer Defense Florida’s offense ranks first in the NCAA in scoring at 16.88 goals per game. The Gators will be tested by Denver’s seventh-ranked defense, as the Pioneers only allow 7.75 goals per game. In Florida’s last three games against No. 7 Stony Brook, No. 4 Syracuse and UConn, the Gators have averaged 20.33 goals scored per game with a season-high of 22 coming versus Stony Brook.
