Under Armour Lacrosse and Tom Marechek’s All Pro Lacrosse have announced that registration is now open for the inaugural Great Plains Lacrosse Classic Tournament. The Great Plains Lacrosse Classic is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd – Sunday, June 24th this summer 2012 in Overland Park, Kansas at the state-of-the-art Overland Park Soccer Complex. This is a premier tournament for U13, U15, and high school teams nationwide to come to clash and compete in a central location for national recognition and to be seen by college coaches.

The Tournament Director, Hall of Famer Tom Marechek, indicated that the Tournament’s long-term mission and purpose is to support the growth of lacrosse nationally and to give teams from nontraditional and upcoming lacrosse regions of the country an opportunity to come showcase their talent. As someone who hails from, Victoria, British Columbia, a nontraditional lacrosse region, Tom Marechek supports the development and growth of the sport in different areas and the idea of finding talent in new places.

The Great Plains Lacrosse Classic is open to all U13, U15, and high school teams nationwide, especially those teams in upcoming regions such as the Midwest, South, and West Coast. The tournament will be Round Robin format and take place on Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th. In addition, we are featuring college coaches from NCAA D1, D2, and D3, and coaches representing MCLA D1 and D2 schools will be in attendance as well.

On Saturday evening, 44 high school players will be selected to play in the inaugural Great Plains 44 All-Star game under the lights and in front of the college coaches. The college coaches will help in casting votes for the top 44 players selected to play, so this is a great chance for players to get direct exposure.

As part of the tournament package, on Friday evening before the tournament weekend kick-offs, Tom Marechek, the All Pro coaches, and the NCAA/MCLA coaches will be conducting an optional Skills’ Clinic for all positions that will give players a great opportunity to learn new skills and reinforce fundamentals. Also, this program includes a Recruiting Seminar to allow players the chance to hear from and ask questions to college coaches to gain insight on college lacrosse recruiting.

The Overland Park Soccer Complex is a top sports’ facility that offers 12 turf fields equipped with lights and scoreboards as well as a field cooling system to ease the summer temperatures.
