TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans held strong through three periods of play, but the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders won the war with a break through in the final period.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Period
- Belmont Abbey started the game with a two goal lead with in the first six minutes.
- Senior Conor Whipple took action with an unassisted goal at 9:17 to decrease the lead by one goal.
- The Crusaders battled back with another goal.
- Andrew Kew came through with a goal at 1:23 to end the period only down by one goal. Belmont Abbey lead Tampa by a score of 3-2.
- A reved up squad led to two goals for Tampa in the period.
- Chris Vetter scoredunassisted at 13:43 and one minute later Kew’s second goal of the game gave Tampa the lead at 4-3.
- The Crusaders shot for two goals.
- Kew for his third goal of the game, with help from Bryan Wright, tied up the game 5-5.
- Back and forth goals from both makes the game tied before half-time. Thanks to man-up goal from Matt Vetter, assisted by Whipple.
- M. Vetter started off the period for Tampa to take a 7-6 led.
- At 8:17, Belmont Abbey tied the game to 7-7.
- With only 00:09 left in the period, Whipple took back the lead for Tampa.
- Crusaders tied the game less than a minute into the period at 8-8.
- C. Vetter took back the lead for Tampa for a score of 9-8 over Belmont Abbey.
- Knights offense regained the lead seconds later and kept going with two goals to follow with a final score of 11-9, Belmont Abbey.
- Alex Patton went 5-8 on face-offs today.
- Whipple had three points, two goals and one assist with two ground balls.
- Kew tallied three goals with two groundballs.
- C. Vetter had two goals with four groundballs.
- M. Vetter had two goals with two groundballs.
- A.J. Ferraro snagged three goroundballs and one caused turnover.
- Bryan Uva tallied two groundballs.
- Blaine Birch added one groundball and one caused turnover.
