UT Men: Spartans Corral the Mavericks 15-7

  • Andrew Kew wastes no time to start the firing squad for Tampa, assisted by Jake Mosher McGraw.
  • At 9:35 the Mavericks tied it to 1-1.
  • Mosher McGraw comes through for Tampa to take a 2-1 lead with 5:24 left in the period.
  • Mosher McGraw teams up with Conor Whipple to tack on another one.
  • Bryan Wright has help from Kew to make it 4-1 before a Colorado Mesa time out.
  • With 13 seconds to spare, Sean Herdman gives Tampa a 5-1 lead going into the 2nd period.
2nd Period
  • The Mavs bring the game to 5-2 with 13:27 on the clock.
  • Kew strikes again at 2:21 to take a 3-goal lead over the Mavs.
3rd Period
  • Kew with his third goal of the game at 9:32 makes it 7-2 Tampa. 
  • Colorado Mesa takes advantage of man-up to shorten Tampa’s lead to 7-3.
  • The Vetter brothers team up to take a five-goal lead. Matt Vetter scores the goal assisted by Chris Vetter.
  • The Mavs answer back to make it 8-4.
  • With 2:27 on the clock C.Vetter has his second point of the game with a goal.
  • Colorado Mesa, with 36 seconds left brings the score to 9-5.
4th Period
  • Kew and Whipple team up to get double digits on the board, now leading 10-5.
  • Jake Schmidt is assisted by Jud Huxtable for a six-goal lead.
  • Whipple earns his second point of the night and his first goal assisted by Sam Watts. Tampa leading 12-5.
  • Kew fires his fifth goal of the night.
  • Colorado Mesa comes back with two goals to make it 13-7 with 3:08 left in the game.
  • Watts answers the Mavs six seconds later to take back a seven-goal lead.
  • Tampa wins the game with a final score of 15-7.
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Kew led the team in points with five goals and one assist.
  • Mosher McGraw had two goals and one assist.
  • Whipple had three points, two assists, and one goal.
  • The Vetter brothers totaled three points.
  • Watts went 17-25 on face-offs with two goals.
  • Charlie Cummins and Marty Heyn each had three caused turnovers to lead the defense.
  • A.J. Ferraro had five ground balls.
