JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A cornerstone for future success of the Jacksonville University men’s lacrosse program was recently solidified as Head Coach Guy Van Arsdale was signed to a contract extension through the 2017 season.
“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue developing the lacrosse program at JU,” said Van Arsdale. “I appreciate both President Cost and Dr Horner endorsing our plan by making this happen. Our mission will be to continue to develop men of character who are winners both on and off the field and I cannot think of a better University for us to carry this mission forth.”
“No one knows the lacrosse terrain like Guy Van Arsdale,” Chief Athletics Officer Dr. Donnie Horner said. “His knowledge of the game, connections within the lacrosse community, and ability to teach and mentor our student-athletes were central to our wanting Guy back to lead our men’s lacrosse program. He has won championships, has been a coach of the year, and has assembled a formidable roster and coaching staff. We are thrilled to have him back.”
One of the most well connected and respected coached in the country, Van Arsdale took over the young program in August 2011 and met instant success. Under his watch the Dolphins tied a program record with eight wins and compiled a 5-1 record in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games to earn a share of the regular season crown. All this coming in only the fourth year of existence super slim electronic cigarette for the program.
At the helm of the only Division I lacrosse program in the state of Florida, Van Arsdale has been a champion for the growth of the game. His first season in 2012 was highlighted by a resounding victory over Navy in the inaugural Moe’s Southwest Grill Classic â a nationally televised doubleheader played every year across the river at EverBank Field, home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.
Van Arsdale has three decades of coaching experience under his belt, including stops at Colorado College, Notre Dame, Penn State and Rochester Institute of Technology.
He has coached more than 50 All-Americans in his three decades in the profession and continues to be sought after as a featured speaker at regional and national coaching clinics. In the classroom, over 30 JU men’s lacrosse student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the spring 2014 semester.
Jacksonville University’s nearly 500 student-athletes compete in 19 NCAA Division I sports. In 2013-14, the Dolphins won eight conference titles as JU won the Atlantic Sun’s Sherman Day Trophy, awarded to the women’s all-sports champion. In the last two years, beautification upgrades were completed to Historic Swisher Gymnasium; the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex was officially dedicated; enhancements were made to Sessions baseball stadium; work began on a new football/lacrosse stadium at Milne Field; and construction was completed on the Southern Oak Soccer Stadium, the Swisher Golf Practice Facility and the Dolphin Sand Volleyball Facility.
