In a match-up of two top ten-teams, the Vero Beach girls played host to the visiting Titans of Olympia. Olympia came into the contest as winners of nine straight after losing to Ponte Vedra by four back on February 10th. Olympia started strong, controlling the first two draws and scoring quickly, taking a 2-0 lead over the 10-time State Champions with 23:06 left in the first.  As has been the trend, Vero seemingly woke up and rattled of 6 straight to go into the intermission up 6-2. The second half continued in the same fashion. Vero went up 10-2 as the Vero defense stymied the visitors. Olympia didn’t score until 12:21 remained in the second, ending a 35 minute scoreless drought. Sophomore goalie Lexie Patton stood on her head, recording 7 saves with 4 of them making any highlight reel. Sophomores Kaylee Coleman and Sara Mazza anchored the Vero defense along with Senior Makala Peirce, often frustrating the Olympia offense. Finley Cassidy however, was a bright spot for the visitors. Her athleticism and tenaciousness kept the contest close as she and Olympia closed the gap to 12-7 with 1:51 left. Vero’s offense was led by Sophomore Gabby Sposato’s 5 goal outburst and University of Florida Sophomore commit Maddie Ellis’ four goals. Megan Gorman contributed 2 goals and three assists. Olympia travels to 6-3 Celebration Thursday and Vero travels to Park Vista Wednesday before hosting 8-0 St. Thomas Aquinas Friday night.
