If Jupiter keeps getting performances from their freshmen like they did tonight, they’re going to be a tough team to beat over the next few years.
Behind seven goals from three different freshmen, the Warriors knocked off cross-town rival Benjamin 13-10 in a first round play-in game. Jupiter will take on Vero Beach Friday night in the second round, in just the Warriors first year competing in the FHSAA.
“We’ve been building this now for four years, said head coach Jupiter head coach Dan Loftus. “Coach O’Hara, myself, the parents. This is the culmination of the last four years.”
In their first FHSAA playoff appearance, the Warriors got out of the gate quickly. Benjamin took a 1-0 lead early, but Jupiter freshman Peter Cox responded less than two minutes later with one of this own to tie the game.
From there, fellow freshmen Jesse Foertmeyer scored 2 of his 3 goals to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
Behind 4 goals from four different players, including freshman Zack Crotty who finished with 3 goals on the night, Jupiter took a 7-1 advantage midway through the second quarter.
“They got up and really started to get on a roll,” said Benjamin head coach Riorden Cheatham. “It was just really hard for us to get back.”
