West Shore Girls sting Scorpions in overtime

By Sam Lack With six goals, all coming in the second half and overtime, Junior Christine Sherry pitched in a double-hat-trick, leading the Lady Wildcats to an upset victory over the Satellite Scorpions, 10-8, in overtime. The Wildcats fell behind early, trailing 4-2 at halftime, but a late run allowed the Lady Wildcats to tie the game and force an extra period. Sherry scored a goal in the first overtime period to take the lead, but the lead was short lived, as the Scorpions tied the game at 8-8 just minutes later. Sherry proceeded to score consecutive goals, taking a lead that the Lady Wildcats refused to concede. “It really gives us a lot of confidence going forward,” Sherry said. “If we can knock off a team like this, and stay determined even when we’re behind, I think we can beat anybody.” Also contributing to the victory was junior Lindsay Gorham and sophomore Kaitlin Inganna, who scored once, along with sophomore Faryn Antenucci who scored twice. Led by Sherry’s double hat-trick, the Lady Wildcats improve to 3-0 and claim the top spot in the district standings. “People expect us to be really bad just because the boys’ lacrosse team loses frequently by double digits,” Gorham said. “But in all reality, they don’t realize that we have an opportunity at winning districts this year if we just pull together. We all want it, its just a matter of working for it and practicing hard.” The girls continue regular season play on Wednesday when they host the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers at 6 p.m.
