Flagler Edges Barton with Last Minute Goals

WILSON, N.C.- Trace McDonald and Luke Burton scored a goal each in the last minute to secure a 13-11 win for Flagler College against Barton College in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game Tuesday afternoon at the Electrical Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium.

Flagler advances to 4-4 and Barton drops to 2-6 for the season. The Saints will play again on March 16 at 1 p.m. at No. 1 (USILA Division II Top 20) Limestone University.

The Bulldogs and Saints tied it up at 11 with five-plus minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Saints earned their victory with back-to-back goals from McDonald and Burton in the last 15 seconds to bring them over the edge.

The Bulldogs managed a lead at the start of the game, ending the first half 8-6 with Nick Lord scoring two of their eight goals.

The Saints were able to come back in the third quarter by shutting out the Bulldogs and scoring four consecutive goals from John KerseyAntanas Mikuzis, and two from Logan Tobias to end the quarter 10-8.

McDonald scored four goals and tallied an assist for the Saints. Nate Lehr held it down for the defense making 11 saves. Matt Mitrega also stood out with eight ground balls and a caused turnover.

Three different Bulldogs scored two goals and Matt Calleri tallied five assists. Drew Wheeler finished with 10 saves.
