BOX SCORE

Top-Ranked Pace Outlasts Tampa

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No.4 University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team falls to top-ranked and reigning national champion, Adelphi on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Spartans would go down early after Maddie Schubert found the back of the net off a free-position shot. Tampa would respond three minutes later after Cece Colombo scored the Spartan’s first goal of the game to bring the score level. Just over three minutes later, Sophi Wrisk would give Tampa the lead after a Peyton Howell assist. The first quarter would continue to be low scoring, however, the Setters would tie the game up with thirty-two seconds remaining in the first to head into the second quarter all tied up. Pace would score three unanswered goals to open up the second quarter. Sarah Hinkle would cut the Setters lead to two but Schubert would tally her second goal of the game to put Pace back up by three to end the first half. Much like the first quarter, the third quarter would bring few goals. Pace would continue to build on its lead but later on, Hinkle would find the net for the second time to keep the Spartans within reach. Pace would continue to dominate in the fourth defensively as they would hold Tampa to just two second-half goals. Hinkle would record a hat trick with a little over three minutes remaining in the game but would not be enough as Pace would outlast Tampa, 11-5.

Stat of the Game – Hinkle records a hat trick for the third time in four games this season.
