#7 Rollins Women Run Past Railsplitters in Home Opener, 21-4

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 18, 2024) – The seventh-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team blew past Lincoln Memorial on Sunday afternoon, winning by a final of 21-4 in the Tars’ home opener. Rollins goes to 4-0 on the year, while the Railsplitters drop to 1-4.

Caroline Gastonguay led all players with six goals and nine points, while Jorie Alf and Lauren Noonan each chipped in with three goals. Charlotte Gastonguay and Katie Bell tallied two goals and an assist each, while Sydney Nickel had a goal and two assists to go along with a game-high four draw controls. Anya Studebaker (4-0) played 44:39 to earn the win, stopping two of the four shots she faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • After LMU opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game, Caroline Gastonguay tied the game at the 9:47 mark on a woman-up goal.
  • Noonan then scored 13 seconds later to give Rollins the lead, 2-1.
  • Alf and Caroline Gastonguay tallied markers late in the quarter to make it a 4-1 game after the first 15 minutes.

Second Quarter

  • The Railsplitters scored just 14 seconds into the second quarter before the Tars rattled off eight straight goals, including three from Caroline Gastonguay and two from Noonan as the Blue and Gold built a 12-2 halftime lead.

Third Quarter

  • The Tars kept pushing in the second half, outscoring LMU 6-0 in the third quarter, with six different Tars netting goals to increase the lead to 18-2.

Fourth Quarter

  • LMU scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter before Gabby Yerardi, Bell, and Carsyn Christel put home markers to close out the game with Rollins taking the 21-4 win.

The Tars will be back in action on Friday, February 23, as they open up conference play at Palm Beach Atlantic at 5:30 p.m.
