Alex Walling Named National Player of the Week for Second Time this Season

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – Alex Walling has earned IWLCA National Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after her performance this past week against Saint Leo. Walling has given up five goals or less in six games this season and is ranked inside the top 15 for goals against average in the nation.

The IWLCA has chosen 10 student-athletes for the IWLCA Player of the Week awards for the week ending April 2, 2023. This weekly award recognizes the best offensive and defensive performances by players in Division I, II, III, and the NAIA each week during the regular season.

Defensive Player of the Week  

Alex Walling – University of Tampa 

The senior goalkeeper had a season-high save percentage of 91.7 in the No. 6 Spartans 18-1 dominating win at No. 19 Saint Leo University on Friday. She recorded 11 total saves in the game and helped move Tampa to 10-2, 2-0 overall. This is Walling’s second IWLCA National Player of the Week honor this season. The Spartans slid up to the No. 5 spot in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Poll.
