Jacksonville Picks Up Road Conference Victory Over Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another successful trip to North Carolina ended in a 19-5 victory for the Jacksonville University men’s lacrosse team, defeating Queens 19-5 in Atlantic Sun (ASUN) conference play.

The Numbers
Jacob Greiner and Nathan Kapp led the way for the Dolphins as Greiner finished with 10 points, scoring six times and assisting on four goals, leading the team in all three categories.

Kapp was again dominant as the faceoff specialist, going 18-22 with 10 ground balls. Kapp has won 43 of 54 chances in his last two games, anchoring the team and earning possessions for Jacksonville.

The Dolphins had nine different goal scorers in the game, with Jackson Intrieri (4), Nicky Brown (2) and Henry Fleckner (2) all joining Greiner with multiple goals.

Ryan Della Rocco finished with eight saves and just five goals allowed as JU continued to showcase an elite defensive performance.

How It Happened
After a low-scoring opening quarter, the Dolphins looked to be in a defensive battle early before JU turned up the intensity, allowing just one goal in each of the second, third and fourth quarters.

The defensive effort led to a spark on the offensive end, with Brown, Intrieri and Greiner coming alive, with Brown bookending the beginning of the run with a pair of goals to start the second and third quarter scoring.

Intrieri got two in the second quarter as the Dolphins led 6-3 at the break. Brown’s third-quarter goal at the 13:53 mark of the third kept the momentum rolling as JU increased the lead to nine.

Fleckner and Anthony Caputo added to the scoring in the third as Greiner began to take over the game, scoring twice with one assist.

In the fourth, Greiner, Intrieri and Brown continued to give the Queens’ defense headaches as the Dolphins cruised to the 14-point victory.

Head Coach John Galloway
“I am proud of our team effort today. Coach Colpitts and his staff have done a great job and made it incredibly hard on our guys in the first half. Our guys didn’t panic and kept their focus for the entirety of the game. Obviously, Jacob was able to have a big game, and I think a lot of that was the product of our discipline and patience offensively. On defense, Ryan Della Rocco and Aaron Toguri were spectacular. Kapp continues his hot streak, and he is playing like a senior with motivation.

We won’t live on this for long. We know how talented Detroit is offensively, and I look forward to the next 72 hours with this group as we continue to hunt growth!”

Next Up
Jacksonville will head north to take on Detroit Mercy on Wednesday (April 10), with the opening faceoff set for noon.
