Dyer and Finnelle Tagged with AAC Player of Week Awards
The Maryland natives helped hold the Bearcats to just six goals this past weekend

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the eighth time this season, the Florida lacrosse team has at least two players represented on the AAC weekly honors. Ashley Dyer was named Freshman of the Week and Elyse Finnelle earned Goalkeeper of the Week, as both players helped staple a back line that held Cincinnati to six goals in Saturdays 18-6 road victory.
This is Dyer’s first player of the week accolade, as the freshman set career highs in ground balls and caused turnovers with three each. She held Cincinnati’s leading scorer to zero points, as it was the first time this season she had been blanked and just the second time in her career. The Elkridge, Md. native leads the Gators with 12 caused turnovers this season, along with 13 ground balls. Dyer has three games this season with two or more draw controls or caused turnovers, but this is her first time having at least two of each in the same game.
Finnelle finds herself winning goalkeeper of the week for the second time in seven days. The redshirt-sophomore topped her previous career high of 12 that she set last week with 14 saves against the Bearcats. The Deale, Md. native gave up just three goals after the first frame, totaling a .700 save percentage overall. Finnelle has four double digits save games this season, and has saved at least seven shots in her last four games, while holding the opponent to seven or less goals in all four. The goalkeeper leads the AAC in save percentage at .551 this season, while calculating a 3-2 record on a team leading 92 saves.
The Gators have now had a total of 17 AAC weekly awards this season, divided up among 10 different players. No. 10 Florida (14-2, 5-0 AAC) looks to complete an undefeated regular season record in conference play, as they return home for Senior Day to take on Temple at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
