BOX SCORE

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team notched its second win of the season on Sunday with a 21-10 defeat of Young Harris on the road. With the win, the Eagles remain undefeated at 2-0, while Young Harris falls to 1-5 on the year.

Eight different Eagles registered points in the win, led by Murphy McDonough who totaled a career-high 10 points. She tied the ERAU single-game record for goals with seven and added three assists. Sallie Squire tallied six goals and Alexa Zeruto contributed four goals and an assist.

The game was all tied up at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter with two goals from McDonough and one from Squire, and all three YHC goals were scored by Taylor Greenberg. But the second quarter was all Embry-Riddle. Squire opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, and after Ella Hancock tied things up again at 4-4, the Eagles added four unanswered points to the score with three goals from McDonough and one from Zeruto to take a 8-4 lead at the half.

Both sides poured on the offense in an 11-goal third quarter. Squire and Samantha Reich accounted for the first two goals of the quarter on the way to an eight-goal advantage. While the Mountain Lions were able to match their entire first half output with four goals in the third, they were unable to catch the Eagles who took and seven-goal lead into final period.

The Eagles dominated the fourth quarter winning six draw controls, compared to just one by YHC, and winning the ground ball battle 4-1. The Mountain Lions managed two goals in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to trouble the Eagles who scored six goals in the final 15 minutes to wrap up the win.

The Eagles will play at home for the first time this season on Saturday when they host Assumption at the ERAU Lacrosse Stadium. Game time is scheduled for noon.
