Desimone Has Career Day and Matches Program High as No. 9 Tars Rout PBA

WINTER PARK, Fla.  (March 31, 2018) – Sophomore attacker Julianna Desmione had a career performance and matched the program’s single game high for points in a game as she netted six goals and added three assists for a total of nine points.  With Desimone’s help, the No. 9 Rollins women’s lacrosse team made easy work of first-year Palm Beach Atlantic, routing the Sailfish by a final score of 19-2 on Saturday evening at Cahall-Sandspur Field. The win marks the 10^th-straight for the Tars, and advances their record to 11-2, and 1-1 on SSC play.  The Sailfish, wo made their first road trip of the season after nine straight home contests, drop to a mark of 1-9 and 0-1 in SSC play. Behind Desimone’s career setting and program matching day, plenty more Tars earned personal bests.  Eden Cooke netted a hat trick, while Taylor Kienle, Marina Longo, and Maddie McVicker scored two goals apiece.  AJ Wilder, Nikki Stumpf, Kaitlin Young and Maggie Dougherty notched one goal each.  Desimone led the team with three assists, while Megan Cury, Hannah Forbes, Kienle, Longo, Stumpf, Wilder, and Young all earned one assist each as Rollins saw 10 of their 19 goals assisted.  Sarah Neely led the game in ground balls with five, while shutting out the Sailfish for the entire first half of action while earning five saves for an unblemished 1.00 save percentage on the day.  Kienle led the team in draw controls with four, while Neely, megan DeGroat, Forbes, and Maddie Hendren earned one caused turnover each on the evening.  Closing out the final 30 minutes in cage was freshman Gabby Tanner, who earned three saves while allowing two goals and picking up three ground balls. Palm Beach Atlantic saw one goal each from Kate LeBlanc and Grace Bartlinski, while Dom Barber earned one assist on the evening.  Sarah Vernarelli and Jasmine Rogell picked up a team best two ground balls each, while Bartlinski won four draw controls and Alyssa Yates won three.  Emily Van Duren, Barber, and Bartlinski earned a team best one caused turnover each.  In goal, Vernarelli played a full 60 minutes, facing 35 shots and 29 shots on goal.  Vernarelli earned 10 saves while allowing 19 goals in the day. HOW IT HAPPENED:

• First Half:  Rollins rolled through the first half, holding the Sailfish off of the board while scoring 11 straight to take an 11-0 lead at the break.  Desimone contributed on the first six goals, assisting the first, scoring the next four, and assisting on the sixth goal of the game.  Longo and Cooke also had big first halfs, scoring two goals each, while Longo added an assist.
• Second Half:  The Tars opened up the second half with two more goals, including Wilder’s first of her career, taking a 13-0 lead with 25:18 left.  The Sailfish were finally able to break the run, scoring two straight to pull to within 11 points, 13-2, with 22:03 on the clock.  However, the Tars closed out the game with six unanswered goals throughout the final 20 minutes of play, earning the 19-2 victory to win their tenth straight.

• Rollins now leads the overall series with the Sailfish, 1-0.
• The Tars entered into the week sitting 9th on the IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll, and sit 10th on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20.
• Eden Cooke earned a season high in goals and points in a game with three.
• Julianna Desimone notched career bests in points (9), goals (6), and assists (3), and matches the program’s single game high for points in game.
• Hannah Forbes matches a season best in assists with one, and earned a new season high in draw controls in a game with three.
• Taylor Kienle earned a new season best for points in a game (3), as well as goals in a game (2).  The Winter Park, Fla. native also earned a new season best for ground balls in a game with two, and matched a season best four draw controls which she first set on March 25 against Lenoir-Rhyne.
• Marina Longo earned a new season best for goals in a game with two, and matched a season best in points with three.
• Maddie McVicker earned a new season best for goals and points in a game with two.
• Sarah Neely earned a new career high for ground balls in a game with five.
• Gabby Tanner earned the first saves of her career with three, and picked up a season best three ground balls.
• AJ Wilder notched the first goal and assist of her career, and notched a new career high in points in a game with two.
• Kaitlin Young earned a season best two points, netting a goal and dishing out the first assist of her career.
• Career Records to Watch:
  • Sophomore Maggie Dougherty has made her mark in career draw controls, moving into the Top-10 in program history as she as amassed 70 draw controls in her career.  Dougherty sits 117 behind the program’s all-time leader, Erica Pagliarulo `13, with 187.
  • German ranks first in the program record books for free-position goals scored, having earned 53 in her career, and also now leads the program in game-winning goals, with 14.  The junior also ranks fourth for career goals scored with 132, fourth in career assists with 60, and sits third for career points scored with 192.
  • Malorie Olin currently ranks second in program records for career saves with 440.  She sits behind Elyse De Lisle `14, who amassed 463 in her career.
  • Lindsay Van Beck has moved into third in program record books for caused turnovers in a career with 72.  She sits 35 caused turnovers behind program leader Courtney Bianculli `13, who amassed 107 in her time with the Tars.
  • Brenna Heaney sits seventh in program record books for career caused turnovers, with 49.

Women’s Lacrosse Can’t Match #9 Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse were unable to matchup with No. 9 Rollins on Saturday, falling by a final score of 19-2 in Sunshine State Conference action.

PBA was finally able to breakthrough onto the scoreboard six minutes into the second half as Grace Bartlinski notched her 30th goal of the season. Two minutes later it was Kate LeBlanc who scored her seventh of the year off a feed from Dom Barber.

Rollins led 11-0 at halftime and scored the first 13 goals of the game before PBA got on the board. The Tars outshot the ‘Fish 35-13 and put 29 shots on target. PBA managed 10 shots on goal with Bartlinski leading the way with six total shots.

The Sailfish are back in action on Wednesday as they host Embry-Riddle in a SSC game at 6 p.m.
