Gulf Breeze Boys Lacrosse Sees Epic Season End in Region Semifinals

It was a tough pill to swallow for the Gulf Breeze boys lacrosse team.

The first team in the Pensacola area to advance in the state playoffs saw its season come to an end on Tuesday night with a 12-7 loss to visiting Gainesville Oak Hall in the regional semifinals.

The end of the Dolphins’ historic run was also the end of a 20-game unbeaten streak — also known as the entire season up to this point.

And while there was dejection following the loss, there was also another feeling — hope.

That’s because Gulf Breeze (20-1) has set a new standard for lacrosse in the area.

“We played really, really hard and tied that thing up there at the end of the third quarter,” first-year Gulf Breeze head coach Earle McCauley said. “But we didn’t possess it very well. I would guess Oak Hall had possession 70 to 75 percent of the time. Oak Hall is a really, really good team. That’s where we want to end up and we are on the road to that.”
