Berkeley Prep Hires Haverford’s Travis Loving as Boys Lacrosse Coach, New Staff

Author’s Note – I received this information from Bobby Reinhart this morning.  We spoke a little bit about it and I find this quite a step up for Berkeley Prep in announcing their intentions for their program.  Last year they took a significant step up, attaining a Top 20 final ranking from me following their 15-5 season and a Final Eight trip.  Hiring away Travis Loving, an assistant coach for 17 years at the Haverford School in Pennsylvania, Inside Lacrosse’s 2015 National Champions, is a significant move.  Bringing in on the staff an assistant at both Avon Old Farms and The Brunswick School, two traditional New England power programs, as well as the head coach of Cathedral Catholic in California (who made a Florida trip a few seasons ago), also signifies the school is serious about state championships.  The school’s Headmaster is Joe Seivold, a four time All-American at UNC.  The continued growing out of high school lacrosse programs in this state took another step up today!
TAMPA, Fla. Travis Loving joins Berkeley Preparatory School as head Boys Varsity Lacrosse coach after 17 seasons at The Haverford School located just outside of Philadelphia. Travis played goalie collegiately at Army for legendary Coach Jack Emmer. At West Point, he served as the team’s captain in 1996, was a 3-time All-Patriot league selection, and appeared in the NCAA tournament during his freshmen and senior years. He has coached 36 high school All-Americans, 10 Division I goalies, 11 Inter-Academic League title teams, 5 Inter-Academic League tournament title teams, one state championship team in 2005, and two undefeated national championship teams in 2011 and 2015. Travis will also be teaching in Berkeley’s Upper Division Math Department. Pat Clare joins Berkeley as an assistant after having most recently coached at The Avon Old Farms School in Avon, CT. At Avon, Pat worked with both the varsity and junior varsity programs, specializing in working with the defensive units. Prior to Avon Pat spent a year coaching at The Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT. He played collegiately at Tufts University, where he was a defenseman on the Jumbos’ 2010 NCAA Division 3 national championship team. That team also won the NESCAC tournament, marking the first conference championship in school history. Prior to Tufts he was a four-year varsity player and three-year starter at the Taft School in Watertown, CT. He captained the team his senior year, earned Western New England all-star honors and was the recipient of the Lance R. Odden award. Pat will be teaching in Berkeley’s Upper Division History Department. Chad Hadlock joins the Berkeley staff from San Diego where he was head coach of Cathedral Catholic High School, a perennial power in Southern California. Chad grew up in Corning, NY, where he was a HS All-American and Empire State Selection before attending the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1994. During his four seasons at Army, Chad started more than 50 games at attack, became just the 16th member of the 100-point club for career scoring in program history, and was a multiple time All-Patriot League selection. Chad has coached high school, club lacrosse, and provided advanced private training since 2004, helping develop innumerable current and former NCAA lacrosse players.
